Abstract

To meet the high production efficiency, high quality and lower cost needs of sheet metal companies, this paper presents a compound cutting and punching production method supported by an integrated CAD/CAPP/CAM system in sheet metal manufacturing. This paper deals mainly with the solutions of the integrated system so that it can be used for compound manufacturing under global and concurrent environment. The solutions include an integrated data integration platform based on Pro/INTRALINK, and a knowledge-based real time CAPP system for compound sheet metal cutting and punching. Within the presented CAD/CAPP/CAM system, some important modules have been developed. They are the automatic tools selection and manufacturing sequencing, a shortest tool path optimisation model and automatic insertion of auxiliary path based on knowledge base.
