Abstract
A machine has been developed in which electronic and mechanical systems are combined so as to assist an operator in the task of separating unsound items from amongst sound produce. The operator uses a hand held selector, known as a “wand”, to touch any item within the inspection area of the machine and rejection of such selected items is then performed automatically. The present machine has been evolved from two earlier but smaller versions and, although designed initially for use with potatoes, has been successfully applied to other produce.
