Abstract

The article expresses views on the state and future direction of international accounting standards issued by the International Accounting Standards Committee. It is important to state at the outset that there is not, at present, a set of high quality international accounting standards which could be considered acceptable for purposes of domestic and cross-border financial reporting. The development of an internationally acceptable set of high-quality accounting standards ultimately depends upon the establishment of an internationally acceptable accounting standard-setting body.
