Abstract

Time-budget studies in various population groups have often been made in our country. Previously they were utilized primarily to analyze the duration and structure of time expenditures on various kinds of activity in the course of a day, a week, or some other unit among various socio-occupational and demographic groups in the population for the purpose of studying their life-styles. Numerous studies done on this level have made it possible to draw important theoretical conclusions and make practical recommendations. However, the building of communism more and more urgently demands broad utilization of time budgets for planning and managing socioeconomic processes. In order to make such undertakings more convenient to use, it is necessary to move from survey calculation of average time budgets per member of a given socio-occupational population group to calculation of input-output tables for the total time fund of the population of various parts of the country.
