Abstract

Increase safety of newborns on a mother–baby unit. Using the Joint Commission standard of requiring two patient identifiers for newborns and, going further, integrating a third, unique identifier for newborns. Education and use of the identifiers across a hospital system that delivers more than 10,000 newborns a year. Newborn safety, identification, errors among newborn patients. Greater safety, greater trust in community.
