Abstract

Power electronics equipment have become an inextricable part of human society. Due to its merit of high efficiency, power electronics switch mode supply like rectifiers finds its applications in almost every field. Fast Electric vehicle charging station is one of the trending uses of power electronics switching supplies devices. The fast chargers used for public charging stations involves use of switching supply like AC-DC converter, as the grid supplies AC power and the battery requires dc power to charge. Despite of many merits of power electronics switching supplies, their presence is drawing distorted input current and causing low power factor issues to the power grid. Electric Vehicles (EVs) are increasingly important nowadays for environmental and fuel price reasons, so it is necessary to solve this problem of input low power factor optimally. The addition of Active Power factor correction (APFC) circuit to switching power supplies can greatly reduce harmonics distortion and improves input power factor. As the controller plays a vital role in any application, this paper proposes to improve input power factor optimally by replacing the conventional controller used in APFC by an intelligent and robust controller like fuzzy logic-based fractional order controller.
