Abstract

On account of the essential need and the existing drawbacks of slope monitoring, the shear wave velocity of the slope surface could be treated as an indication of shallow landslides. In this study, the relationship between shear wave velocity, water content, and tilting deformation of the slope surface in shallow landslides was studied by an innovative flume test. Parabolic relationships between the shear wave velocity, water content, and tilting deformation of slope surface were detected, and two equations for the parabolic relationships were also proposed in this study. Moreover, the results also manifested that the decrease rate in normalized wave velocity with volumetric water content and tilt angle of slope surface was independent of surface layer thickness, rainfall duration/initial water content, and density.
