Abstract

We developed Venus and Mars (V&M)[1, 2], a search engine that can integrate multiple information sources on the Internet. V&M consists of multiple information agents. Each agent has an animated character interface and interacts with a user and other agents in a friendly and flexible manner on a platform called the Multiple Character Interface (MCI). By using V&M, the user can retrieve domainspecific information such as cooking recipe interacting with the multiple information agents. In this paper, we evaluate V&M by using the Wizard of Oz method and find that the multiple characters broaden the user’s interests in the course of searching for cooking recipes more than an interface that has one or no character.
