Abstract
A key problem in OBS networks is the assignment of wavelengths to incoming bursts, i.e. the scheduling of bursts. In this paper, we propose an efficient scheduling technique: Modified Latest Available Unused Channel with Void Filling (MLAUC-VF) which efficiently utilizes the voids created by previously scheduled bursts, resulting in high bandwidth utilization. Simulation results demonstrate that the scheduling time of the MLAUC-VF algorithm is superior than existing scheduling algorithms, thus improving the most imperative burst drop ratio and packet loss rate parameters.
