Abstract
Abstract Formate and methoxide species formed by the CO–H2 reaction over zirconia at 423–673 K were observed by IR method. Methoxide species were converted into formate ion while the conversion of formate ion into methoxide was accelarated when methoxide and formate species coadsorbed on the zirconia surface at 523 K. A mechanism of methanol formation was proposed.
