Abstract

Unlike in one-site production planning and control systems, information management plays an essential role in multi-site production planning and control systems. The hierarchical and central information management architecture is no longer suitable. A distributed architecture is proposed in this paper on the basis of the intelligent agent concept and the object oriented technology. In the architecture, there are two types of information components (global component and local component). Every component is composed of three types of elements, internal database, data object server and information agent. A preliminary revised architecture based on the Intranet concept is also briefly described.
