Abstract

ABSTRACT In this study, unalloyed and nickel alloyed permanent moulded Austempered Ductile Iron (PMADI) samples are utilised to evaluate and compare properties such as tensile hardness and fracture toughness. All PMADI samples were austempered at 350°C for 150 minutes to improve mechanical properties. When compared to unalloyed PMADI samples, PMADI samples alloyed with 1.5% nickel showed better hardness, tensile, and fracture toughness characteristics. In addition to the microstructure examination on samples to determine the presence of feathery dispersion of Bainite, an X-Ray Diffraction Analysis was done to confirm the presence of austenite.
