Abstract

It is shown that a substantial increase in the efficiency and output power of a fast axial flow cw CO 2 laser is possible by the addition of small quantities of argon to the normal three component gas mixture. We have studied the increase in output power as a function of argon concentration and determined that a sharp power maxima occurs at 2.6% concentration.
