Abstract

For trace elemental analysis of a small volume sample by atomic emission spectrometry (AES), an inductively heated furnace with a plasma (IHF/P) is tentatively constructed and its basic characteristics are studied. A glassy carbon tube, in which a small volume of sample (a few μl) is loaded, is located in an rf coil and inductively heated. A discharge plasma is concurrently formed around the heated glassy carbon tube. The sample vaporization in the heated tube is followed by the excitation in the resulting rf-discharge plasma.
