Abstract

The maximum strain theory may be used to predict the fracture load and mode of failure of composite materials. The theory is intended to be valid for an arbitrary biaxial load state. However, calculations using the off-axis test geometry demonstrate that the theory may give incorrect fracture predictions under compressive loading.
