Abstract

Slaughterhouse blood and offal preserved by pickling with 3% commercial sulfuric acid provides a means of producing blood and offal meal of quality comparable with commercial equivalents. The blood and offal meal produced by acidulation and sun drying had the higher pepsin digestibility index, and the blood meal had the highest available lysine value. Acidulation with commercial acid did not result in any specific toxic metal residues in the final dried product.
