Abstract

In order to reduce the complexity of the space vector selection and the computation of the vector dwell time of the traditional space vector pulse width modulation (PWM) strategy, this paper proposes a novel impulse modulation strategy for the permanent magnet synchronous motor with the current source inverter. Based on the impulse theory, this method can calculate the impulse dwell time by sorting the impulse sequence without the change of the calculation equations under different operating conditions. According to the running time, the PWM wave can be generated. The proposed method is simple and easy to implement. It has nearly the same performance as the space vector PWM strategy in the aspects of the bus current utilization ratio, the dynamic response, and the output current harmonics. And this method can be easily extended to multi-phase current source inverter. Simulation and experimental results have verified the effectiveness of the proposed method.
