Abstract

There is a certain amount of ambiguity in the closely-spaced-frequencies method of deducing ionospheric electron content. This ambiguity arises from a lack of knowledge of the difference in the absolute amounts of Faraday rotation undergone by the planes of polarization of the two transmissions involved. A method is outlined which, in most cases, eliminates this ambiguity. Its advantages over alternate methods are discussed.
