Abstract
The Finite Element Method (FEM) is so often used in Structural Optimization (SO) problems, that its numerical features must be taken into account when designing Mathematical Programming (MP) algorithms for general non linear SO problems [1]. A MP algorithm specially designed to be implemented in general FEM structural optimization systems is presented in this paper. The algorithm is an improved version of Sequential Linear Programming (SLP) whose efficiency is dramatically increased by using High-Order Sensitivity Analysis (HOSA) information. Techniques for HOSA, recently developed by the authors, are referenced.
