Abstract

For dynamic stability enhancement of variable solar integrated multi-machine power system subject to damping angular frequency oscillations, an improved PSO (IPSO) tuned dual unified power flow controller (UPFC) is proposed in this work with variable time delay. Controller gains are tuned by PSO and compared with IPSO method. To justify the effectiveness of the proposed controller, a time-domain simulation is being analyzed with solar variations. It has been concluded that, as compared to PSO the proposed controller can damp system oscillation much efficiently and system response has been improved with decrease in time delay for remote speed variation signal. Pertaining to variations in step and randomly varying solar penetrations, dual optimal control action presented in this work performs better than single modulation index and phase angle control for UPFC. Also, variable generations from solar PV penetrations aggravating power oscillations can be damped by proposed optimized dual controlled UPFC actions.
