Abstract

Abstract A method has been developed to obtain the surface corrugation function from atom diffraction intensities. Two procedures are outlined and it is shown that a stepwise inversion can be carried out which does not require assumptions about the corrugation amplitude or the phases of the diffracted beams. The rapid convergence of the procedure allows such inversions to be carried out on laboratory size computers. A few examples are discussed to show the utility of the method
