Abstract

In this paper, an improved waveform design method based on the multiple frequency shift keying (MFSK) is proposed for automotive radar. In this proposed method, the waveform is constituted by three stepped frequency signals, which generates two different ambiguous ranges. The precise range and velocity of target are computed with the two ambiguous ranges above. Compared to the common MFSK waveform, with the same computation load and the same maximum detection range, the proposed waveform can detect the velocity and range of targets more precisely on the condition of the same signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). We also demonstrate the feasibility by means of simulations and experiments.
