Abstract

Several modifications to the classical method of optimality criteria in structural optimization are proposed in this paper. These include selection of critical constraints and robust algorithm for adjusting relaxation factors for each design variable. The proposed algorithms have been applied successfully to the minimum weight design of framed structures using both sizing and geometric (shape) design variable with natural frequency and static response constraints. Several examples are included to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed new approach.
