Abstract
Preincubation with colchicine significantly increased the susceptibility of human platelets to homogenization. This was evidenced by the elimination of partially broken platelets with entrapped organelles (the 800 g pellet), and a concomitant increase in the yield of mitochondrial MAO in the 20,000 g pellet which contained free platelet mitochondria. The results show that colchicine treatment facilitates human platelet homogenization and enhances the recovery of platelet mitochondria and other platelet subcellular organelles.
