Abstract

An important aspect of applications with sensor networks is their network lifetimes. Prolonging the network's lifetime by improving the efficiency of routing algorithm has always been investigated. As for the same purpose, this paper focuses on the design of a remote life alerting system and presents an improved routing algorithm used in this system. For elder people living alone or some other people in need, a wearable alerting device may be needed to transmit their emergency service request signal to the outside in some critical situations. Using the Zigbee protocol and GPRS network, we designed the system for them. After that, an improved LEACH routing algorithm (I_LEACH) based on the analysis of LEACH routing algorithm is introduced. By conducting simulation experiments, the results show that the I_LEACH routing algorithm used in small scale sensor network can reduce the network's power consumption and prolong its lifetime.
