Abstract

A catalytic laboratory pressure reactor with internal gas recirculation is described. Mass transfer coefficients in this reactor have been measured by naphthalene sublimation and confirmed by ethanol dehydration over a ZSM-5 catalyst. Owing to the larger and more effective impeller, performance is a considerable improvement over commercially available Berty and Carberry type reactors. Conditions in many industrial reactors can be simulated in the improved design.
