Abstract

To prolong the lifecycle of heterogeneous wireless sensor networks, an improved algorithm based on a distributed energy efficient clustering algorithm is proposed. Firstly, the proposed algorithm increases the possibility of the higher energy node to become the candidate cluster head based on the absolute value of the residual energy level. Secondly, the energy consumption rate, the ratio of residual energy, and the initial energy are added into the threshold that is used to control the probability of the node selected as the cluster head. Finally, the mixed data transmission mode is used in the data transmission phase to reduce the consumption of nodes to communicate with the base station. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively prolong the network lifecycle and stability period.
