Abstract

This paper propose a buck-type pulse power supply with a reverse voltage circuit for finishing machining of High-Speed Wire-Electrical-Discharge-Machining (HSWEDM). A gap breakdown point detection circuit is added to control the discharge energy. When the gap breakdown is detected, the pulse power supply cut off the energy deliver immediately, and the energy stored in the cable inductance dissipates in the gap with limited time period. Meanwhile, in order to further reduce the pulse width, a reverse voltage source is applied on the connect cable and the discharge gap to reduce the discharge current and shorten the discharge time. The experimental verification showed the validity of the proposed converter and its control strategy.
