Abstract
An improved modular moving-coil underwater sound transducer has been added to the USRD-NRL stock of standard transducers. The single element is essentially omnidirectional throughout the frequency range 10 Hz to 4 kHz; its mean transmitting current response is 160 dB re 1 μPa in the frequency range 30 Hz to 3 kHz. Both single units and triple arrays have been used successfully at sea. The closed compensation system available with some housings can be used to depths as great as 305 m (1000 ft) without additional pressure compensation.
