Abstract

This paper proposes an improved boost-type hybrid converter with multiple outputs (i.e., simultaneous DC and AC outputs). A voltage-source-inverter (VSI) is adopted in the proposed hybrid converter to replace the power switch of the boost converter, enabling the operation of DC-DC and DC-AC conversions at the same time. Furthermore, the boost converter diode is replaced by an active switch (e.g., an MOSFET) to achieve bidirectional power flow between the DC input and output ports (i.e., eliminating the power limitation in traditional stand-alone hybrid converter). In addition, the boost inductor is equally split and symmetrically placed at the positive and negative DC rails. With the dedicated modulation method, the proposed hybrid converter can achieve low leakage currents and reactive power injection at the AC output, being suitable for PV applications. Consequently, the hybrid converter can have good performances in terms of flexibly supplying multiple loads and low leakage currents. Simulations and experimental tests are performed on a 1.5-kW hybrid converter system to validate the effectiveness of the proposal.
