Abstract

The paper advocates in association with a new simple hybrid analysis and design of the protection schemes of the switch mode power supply. Basically, there are two parts of analysis and design, one is the simple Resistance and Capacitance (RC with small inductor) snubber circuit with over voltage protection and other is short circuiting-overload protection. The quasi-empirically designed components and devices of the snubber network also curtail the substantial stress across the switch during both turn-on and turn-off. It suppresses the ringing to safe amplitude of gate pulse in the switch. A simple scheme also describes here that protects not only the power supply due to excessive load drawal and stress across the switch by the load but also easy to implement at low cost and light weight to any generic power converter topologies due to optimization of high frequency switching. This unique snubber also lessens the switching losses and electromagnetic interference, by virtue of which nine to ten percent efficiency attainment is feasible of the converter.
