Abstract

Abstract The visit to Canada by French Prime Minister Laurent Fabius in autumn 1984 prompted General Andre L'Homme of France to send to the Public Archives Canada a highly valuable photographic document, to recall and illustrate a historical event mostly forgotten by journalists. In reporting this visit, Le Figaro suggested that Mr Fabius trip was one of reconciliation between the two countries, France and Canada, but omitted to mention the first mission of reconciliation, carried out in 1855 by PaulHenry de Belveze, great-great-uncle to General L'Hornme. Captain de Belveze was on a diplomatic and commercial tour of Canada on behalf of Emperor Napoleon III.
