Abstract

The high penetration of wind power into the distribution network has an increasing impact on the voltage stability. In this paper, an assessment index of impedance modulus margin (IMM) is proposed to evaluate the bus voltage stability of distribution networks with wind power. The hybrid passive and active loads are modeled to a generalized load that can consider the output characteristics of the wind power generation. The effects of the capacity of wind power and the change of wind speed on the voltage stability are discussed in detail. The case studies show that the IMM index can effectively identify the critical buses for voltage stability in distribution networks with consideration of the uncertainty of the wind power generation. The proposed index can be used for the online assessment of the dynamic voltage stability of the distribution networks.
