Abstract

A functional relationship between microtubule protein (tubulin) and contractile protein has been observed previously. In the present study and immuniological technique, microcomplement fixation, was used to compare vinblastine-precipitated tubulin from brain with tubulin and contractile protein from the adrenal medulla. Antiserum against brain tubulin cross-reacts with adrenal tubulin but not with adrenal actomyosin. Antiserum against adrenal actomyosin cross-reacts with adrenal tubulin, but shows minimal cross-reaction with brain tubulin. The presence of dual antigenic components of the adrenal tubulin suggests that adrenal tubulin may be involved in contractile complexes.
