Abstract

A technique of approximating boundary layers in viscous flow simulations with significantly stretched elements is presented. The elements are introduced automatically within a framework of a general mesh adaptation strategy. The discrete equations are effectively solved with a GMRES procedure preconditioned by the block Jacobi or Gauss–Seidel iterations. Numerical examples of flows with shock-boundary layer interaction and the Reynolds number up to 2·10 6 are presented.
