Abstract

A finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method is developed to calculate the time-domain response of twisted-wire pairs (TWP) illuminated by an external incident electromagnetic field. First, the time-domain Taylor model of the transmission-line equations for TWP coupling with the electromagnetic field is derived. Then, we obtain the recursion relations of voltages and currents along the TWP by discretizing the equations in time and one-dimensional space. Finally, the FDTD method solution is implemented using MATLAB software. The proposed method has been validated by the experimental result previously obtained by R. B. Armenta and C. D. Sarris. Based on the FDTD method, the time-domain susceptibility of the TWP is analyzed when it is excited by a sine plane wave and a Gaussian-type pulse plane electromagnetic wave. This paper also proposes the time-domain characteristics of the voltage on the terminal of the TWP when the parameters of incident field and the parameters of the TWP are changing.
