Summary

Introduction

The efforts of the surgical community have been magnificent in recent weeks. I have nothing but admiration for those who go to work daily not knowing what PPE might be available. My plans to write my last few Bulletin articles on our progress in the last three years and the exciting future for surgery, have, in translating Burns, ‘gone awry.’ Our existence has been dominated for the last few months by a virus that is a long way from being done with us yet. The efforts of the surgical community have been magnificent in recent weeks. I would continue to urge all who deliver surgical care to consider the known or likely risk that a patient presents and whenever time permits, to ensure that adequate protection is available and used correctly.
