Abstract

This paper presents an approach for determining the solar cell model parameters from current-voltage (I-V) characteristics using improved particle swarm optimization (IPSO). The performance of the proposed approach was compared with the popular genetic algorithm (GA) in terms of the objective function values. The validity of the approach has been confirmed with a set of experimental I-V data. It was demonstrated that the experimental I-V data and the I-V curve processed by the IPSO approach were very close. A low objective function value can be obtained by the IPSO approach. So the IPSO outperforms the GA in solving the parameter extraction problem of solar cell model.
