Abstract
The spectrum of singly ionized thallium has been obtained by using the metal in a hollow cathode discharge in helium. Spectrograms have been made from 1900A. to 8000A. The newly found terms here reported are $6s8d^{3}D_{1,2,3}$, $6s8d^{1}D_{2}$, $6s9s^{3}S_{1}$, $6s10s^{3}S_{1}$, $6s6f^{3}F_{2,3,4}$, $6s7f^{3}F$ and an unclassified term ${2}_{3}^{0}$. Absolute term values have been calculated from the sequence $6s6d^{3}D_{2}$, $6s7d^{3}D_{2}$, $6s8d^{3}D_{2}$. The ionization potential is found to be 20.30 volts. Tables of term values and of about sixty newly classified lines are given. Fourteen new multiplets arising from the fine structure of the terms are also tabulated.
