Abstract

AbstractAn extension to the Leslie matrix is presented in which the age of transformation from immature to adult has a log—normal distribution. The major effect of this is shown to be on the second largest eigenvalue. The ratio of the largest to the second largest eigenvalue |λ1/λ2|, which is an index of the rate of approach to the stable age distribution, is greater in the new model, even though the value of λ1 is effectively the same. The differences in the models are most pronounced where the population is subjected to a harvesting regime.
