Abstract

AbstractThe purpose of this study is to develop a systematic meso‐level theoretical modeling approach for analyzing the mode‐I fracture failure behaviors of concrete. Firstly, the eXtended Universal Morphological Model (XUMM) is briefly reviewed. Secondly, a normalized analysis method for the evaluation of effects of properties and scales of meso structures on the performance of concrete is proposed based on the XUMM. Afterwards, parametric studies regarding the aggregate strength effect, the aggregate volume effect, the maximum aggregate size (MAS) effect, the tortuosity of mesoscopic crack, the roughness of fracture surface and the characteristic length are conducted. At last, a case study on the MAS effect based on experimental tests is provided to verify the applicability of the XUMM.
