Abstract

During many years the index known as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) has been an indicator of industrial facilities. Although this index initially appears linked to maintenance, soon was applied to other activities. However, advances in this field were carried out associated the variables of OEE with the sustainability by means of “Overall Environmental Equipment Effectiveness” (OEEE) considering the environmental impact. This paper presents a case study focused in the papermaking, and the performance, the availability and the quality are analysed along with the sustainability. The emissions of CO2 have been considered in the calculation of this sustainability and the main technological parameters of each variable are analysed. The relationship between these variables are analysed and in particular the influence of CO2 emissions rate. The components of OEE show high values in the case study. Moreover they present a week relation with CO2 emissions rate, thus the introduction this rate as indicator can contribute to improve the information obtained from OEE.
