Abstract

The goal of this research is to study building of business ecosystem in order to drive K-DEMO R&D, design and construction activities. Fusion energy development in Korea proceeds largely in 4 phases: KSTAR, ITER, K-DEMO and commercial fusion power plant. Particularly, based on that the goal of the K-DEMO project is to demonstrate fusion-driven electricity production and build economic foundation for fusion energy, this study analyzed the expert interviews and industry perception surveys with the purpose of seeking the ways to build the business ecosystem for K-DEMO project. We defined the industrial technologies for K-DEMO core components and based on these, conducted surveys on the perception of industries associated with accelerators, nuclear power and space business as well as fusion industries. The results are applied to identify the current technology status of industry and the demands from industry on K-DEMO R&D, design, construction activities and develop the proposal to build the K-DEMO business ecosystem.
