Abstract

Questionnaires where mailed to all ILA members who were listed in colleges and universities. Eighty-five (61% response) questionnaires were returned. Forty-four of the responding institutions offer a complete course in listening, most typically in a Speech Communication department. Sixty-three of the reporting institutions offer listening as a unit in other courses, again most typically in Speech Communication courses. The results reveal that listening courses and listening units are offered on a regular basis at a variety of levels in institutions of higher education.
