Abstract

AbstractThis paper presents an exploration study of data-mining driven Product Life-cycle Management (PLM) implementation approach within a Taiwan steel making company. The research aims to validate a theoretical framework to structure published knowledge on how to effectively implement PLM system in a strategic way, and also on how project management approach and data-mining methods can be harmonized within the business decision making formulation process. Working with the case company, the author used a novel manufacturing strategy formulation framework incorporating both the context and content approaches. The primary research results reveal that the issues and factors could be systematically considered as a strategic guide for successful PLM implementation. This is because data-mining driven PLM implementation project using traceable reasoning mechanism to guide the management in formulating its PLM implementation action plan. Furthermore, the knowledge and understanding already captured in existing management practice is thus made available to industries in a coherent way, so that they can evaluate and improve their business performances.
