Abstract

ABSTRACT It is widely recognized that dual relationships can be especially problematic in rural settings, but there has been limited study of this topic. This exploratory study considered responses of 43 employees of two rural child welfare agencies to social worker-initiated nonsexual dual relationship situations. Findings suggest that, while age and degree do not significantly influence one's view of ethicality, years of full-time social work experience does. Agreement was found highest in response to scenarios of “inviting clients to a personal party or social event” and “selling a product to a client.” Implications for future research are explored.
