Abstract

The author transforms the one-sided compilation of Bahamian history and highlights the Bahamian slaves' experience from the perspective of the slave. The introduction is a brief overview of Bahamian slavery. Charles Farquharson's (one of the last slave owners on San Salvador) slave plantation and its unique dynamics will be analyzed. The author includes a comparative analysis of Bahamian slavery and slavery in the United States of America throughout the overview. Next, the author includes a brief description on the historical fiction and neo-slave narrative genre's. This piece combines: oral history interviews, primary & secondary sources, and linguistic research. The latter portion of this work consist of real historical fiction.A True Relic of Slavery: Matilda's Journal from 1831-1832 seeks to close the dehumanizing gap from the history of San Salvador, Bahamas.
