Abstract

To simulate fuzzy phenomena in clinical cardiac electrophysiology an expert system has been combined with a classical mathematical model of the cardiac conduction system. Rules describing the fuzzy phenomenon that should be simulated should be stored in the knowledge base of the expert system. Each simulation cycle the expert system is consulted and the new state of the entire system is evaluated. Different modes are available to present the results of the simulation study. The possibility, offered by the expert system, to elucidate the reasoning process, facilitates the definition of fuzzy phenomena and the understanding of their nature.
