Abstract
The proposed expert system for process supervision of a crude unit uses model-based reasoning to analyze the static behavior of the unit. The expert system contains three main modules with monitoring, what-if, and advisory functions. The implementation issues of the proposed expert system using GENSYM G2 software environment are discussed. The system is under development in the Texaco StarEnterprise refinery in Delaware City, Delaware, USA.
