Abstract

During the extrusion process complex frictional effects occur between the bearing of the extrusion die and the extruded material. The recently developed Tribo-Torsion-Test is introduced and experimental results are summarized, briefly. Based on these results a friction model is introduced considering the effects of temperature, velocity and pressure. The model is adapted to a FE-tool and validation results are discussed. The introduced advanced friction model shows qualitative correct results for a friction sensitive extrusion process whereas the standard shear friction model shows qualitative wrong results.
